Saints vs. Chiefs

After church today, Dad and I went straight to the Saints game. Today’s match was versus the Kansas City Chiefs. As always, I wasn’t expecting much from a performance from the Saints, especially after last week’s disaster. Even so, the Saints won, coming out on top 27-20. The Chiefs had a chance to tie near the end of the game but a fumble crushed and last-minute chances. The rest of the day was pretty quiet. Mom and dad went to pick up Andrew later in the evening. I spoke with Ami on the phone for a while until they returned. Late in the evening I wrote the essay for English I was assigned last Wednesday. It was quite late, or early when I was finished and I went to bed.

Tulane and West Jefferson

This morning’s class discussed some laws surrounding the media. Mr. Rhode had not yet finished grading our tests, although I have complete confidence in my performance on that test. I went straight home from class, although I had a rather long wait for a bus back to the west bank. Shortly after getting home, I continued watching Seven Samurai, which I had started last night. It’s 3 hours long so I’ve taken it in steps. Later in the day Dad, Andrew and I left to go to the Tulane game vs. Army. Actually, we dropped Andrew off at my grandma’s in Metairie to stay the night and assist with the renovations they’re doing at the house, including new flooring. Having left there Dad and I made our way to the Superdome for the 6:30 kickoff. Tulane didn’t have too much trouble with Army, defeating them 45-31. We left the game early so dad could see West Jeff. play Baton Rough-Catholic in the state playoffs. We arrived near the end of the 1st quarter. West Jeff. won handily with a final of 41-21. After the game we stopped in Best Buy for a short while. Dad needed an IDE cable for the computer. I got to handle the Canon 20D for the first time… very nice camera.

Thursday and Friday

Thursday and today were quite similar. I worked at mid city today with some reports to do. There was a good deal of traffic through the office today, although it was rather dead yesterday. After getting home I did nothing of particular circumstance. I watched TV and played Halo 2 for a while before bed.

Halo 2

I didn’t have any trouble getting up this morning, in spite of staying up late to finish my journalism assignment. I didn’t leave for class until quarter to eleven. I guess dad wasn’t in a hurry to leave this morning as he was going to have lunch with a law firm he does business with. As soon as I got to the mall, I walked to the EB Games store. Today marks the release of Halo 2. I’ve been waiting for this game like so many others for quite some time now. It’s the only reason I bought an Xbox a couple months ago. In English class today, Professor Greene introduced our next essay topics. We have to write a reader-response essay on one of two writings, either an Op-Ed about President Bush titled Filter Tips by Michael Kinsley, or a poem by Miguel Pimero. We discussed both at length in class. Afterward I had lunch with Ann. I walked back to the medical school with her through the mild drizzling. The shuttle was nearly 15 minutes late today. After getting uptown I went to the lab to touch up my journalism assignment and surf around until this evening’s class. This evening, Professor Marinello discussed some legal issues of journalism, including libel and slander. After class I walked to the library to meet dad and go home. After getting home I wasted no time to start playing Halo 2. I did just that until 1 AM this morning. Halo 2 is easily the most beautiful video game I have ever seen. The graphics and artwork are stunning. Everything thing about it is amazing and polished. I don’t suspect I’ll be getting much done for a few days.

Covenant Committee Meeting

I went to work at mid city this morning. I didn’t have any reports to do but I had some assorted filing work to do. I didn’t think it would take any time at all but I was occupied for a good part of the time I was there. In the evening Dad and I went to Andrew’s school to pick him up after a half day. He then took us to Loyola where my mom works so she could take Andrew and me the rest of the way home. Dad had to go back to the office for a while longer. Mom was leaving work a little early as she wasn’t feeling well. Later in the evening I went to the semi-annual meeting of the Tall Timbers Owner’s Association at Eisenhower school. I attended so I could write a story about the meeting for journalism class. The meeting lasted a little over an hour. There were a small handful of speakers addressing topics like potholes and the neighborhood telephone directory. Overall it was pretty dry stuff. There was pizza and soda afterward so maybe it was worth it. Later in the evening I wrote the story, using the recording I made of the meeting and the sparse notes I made. I had not originally intended to finish the story tonight, as I will have a few hours tomorrow, but I was doing rather well. While the material was boring, I had plenty of it. I finished the assignment around 2:00 AM and went to bed.

Business as Usual

We finished reading “The Rich Boy” aloud in English class today. I had lunch with Ann afterward. Later in info. systems class, we had a lecture more tedious than the class is used to.

Sunday

I don't remember doing much of anything important today. I did some simple work on my bike, watched some TV. I went to Wal-Mart in the afternoon to pick up some pictures. The lost one of the rolls I turned in, they had no record of it in the computer either. While I was there I bought a Dremel rotary tool so I could polish some things that don't especially need polishing. Dad made a grilled chicken and pasta dish for dinner. Late in the evening I finished watching Rashmon.

Tulane vs. Navy

There was a test in media arts class this morning, it was rather easy and I finished in about 20 minutes. Having known there was just a short test in class today, Dad was willing to wait so I had a ride home. On the way home I stopped to get a hircut. That went rather quickly as well, dad went to get gas and the drycleaning and I was done before he got back. After getting home I didn't do much of anything. Later in the day, Dad, Andrew and I went to the Superdome to see Tulane play Navy. We wern't expecting much of a performance as Tulane lost bad to Huston last week and Navy came very close to beating Notre Dame recently. In spite of that Tulane did just fine. While neither team looked to have much of a performance, Tulane came out on top with a final of 42-10. Later in the evening I watched “Frida” and went to bed.

Work

I had several reports to do at work today. I had a headache so it took a little longer than usual, so I had work throughout the day. The office was more crowded than usual for a Friday, with numerous patients in and out throughout today. I had lunch aty the deli rather than bring food back to the office as I usually do. I was going to go with dad to a football game later in the evening after work but I still wasn't feeling so great, and Andrew would have had to come to as my mom was out for the evening, so I stayed home. Late in the evening I started watching Rashmon, but I was tired and I didn't get far.

Work

Before going to work today I did the prep work for slow-cooked red beans for tonight's dinner. On the way to work we dropped off some pants for dry cleaning. Dad left me at mid city with plenty of reports to do. Before starting with that I vacuumed and replaced the toilet seat in the bathroom, a long overdue chore. After washing my hands thoroughly, I got lunch. Having eaten, I started on the reports and worked on those until about six o'clock. We stopped at the store on the way home for some things. Shortly after getting home we had dinner. Mom wasn't there as he had gone to see her mother, who wasn't feeling well. After dinner I floated between the TV and computer before going to bed.

Class, Movie, Class

It was cool outside today, but the dampness cancelled it out. I got dropped off at the mall with time to spare before English class this morning. I looked around EB games for a bit, got my ritual strawberry coolata and apple fritter and went up to the computer lab for a little while before class. I got my essay back today, A-. I was shocked as I thought the essay I turned in was absolute crap. I guess the words weren’t terribly important so long as they were spelled correctly. After class I took the 1:15 shuttle uptown. Instead of having lunch and such I walked to Melanie's house, as she suggested instead of having lunch as we did a couple times before. We had agreed to watch a movie and we did, picking one from the vast collection at her house. We ended up watching “Stargate.” I had previously spoken about my interest in the TV spin-off of the movie and I hadn't seen it in years. I remember enjoying the movie a lot more the first time. Now I have a TV show to compare it to, a show I'm rather fond of. I guess that taints my view of the movie, or I wasn't as choosy at age 12. After the movie we talked for a while about nothing of particular importance. Melanie's mother, Ann, gave us a ride to Tulane for journalism class this evening. I was already tired and tonight’s class was uncharacteristically uninteresting, surprising given yesterday's big election. The lecture regarded sources. After class I spoke with Melanie briefly and walked to Patterson house to visit Theresa, who I had not spoken with at length for a few months. We just talked about some simple things along the lines of hi-how-you-doing- whatcha-up-to-nowadays. After that I walked to the library to meet Dad and go home. I hadn't eaten for quite a while so Dad agreed to stop through Rally's on the way home so I could get something to eat. I ate when I got home and later watched The Daily Show and Letterman before going to bed.

Election Day 2004

Shortly after getting up this morning I got dressed and walked over to Eisenhour Elementary to go vote. The line was long and I deceided to come back a little later. I did just that and the line hadn't changed much. Knowing I had nothing better to do anyway, I decided to get in line. After exactly an hour of standing around, inching forward and talking to a lady behind me, I got my turn. After getting home from voting I was on the computer for a while and listed to talk radio. I spent a good deal of time trying to get my parent's old computer to work, but to no avail. For dinner I made mexican. It sat ready to eat until Dad got home. After dinner the TV came on and stayed on for quite some time as we watched election returns, flipping between networks. I was on the computer for alot of that time, switching between news and ebay. As I write this at 1:30 AM, it looks like Bush has won reelection. David Vitter won the senate race here, making him the first republican senator here in quite a while. Marlin Gusman, a good buddy of Marc Morial, won criminal sherrif.

A Monday Just Like the Last One

I got dropped off at the mall with about an hour to spare this morning. I looked around Macy's for a little while and spent some time the the computer lab before class. Today in English we continued reading Fitzgerald's “The Rich Boy.” After class I had lunch with Ann and had s Subway sandwich. After taking the shuttle uptown as I always do I went to the lab over there and browsed ebay some more. We had another lab in info. systems class today regarding MS Access. We created a mundane database. The lecture was short. After class I met Dad at the library and went home. I watched TV for a while and later went to bed.
