The Beginning of the End

I had a chance to speak with my boss today regarding my pay and hours. At present, I’m not really making any money and I have very few hours. I requested more but he was not willing to work with me. He only said he had a payroll budget to keep up. I am quite disappointed with him in several respects. I thought it was rather rude and inconsiderate that he had nothing to say to me. He didn't use a single breath to reassure me or convince me to stay. It's plain irresponsible to allow a good worker to leave like that. Good help is hard to find, but apparently it isn't worth keeping. His “Wizard of Oz” management of the store has been a detriment as well. The assistant manager, Renee, who runs the store, runs the clock and racks up obscene amount of overtime, which is no doubt the reason the payroll is over budget in our small store with five employees. On top of that, most of the workers take no initiative and little work gets done. The store will only suffer more with lazy and selfish employees governing themselves. Anyway since my boss wouldn't do anything for me I have my notice and next Friday will be my last day at Tulane Medical Bookstore. It has been a great first job (unless you count that internship). Working at the uptown store provided good surroundings. Working 11-6 doing little more than folding t-shirts and watching girls…and getting paid was as good a way to pass the time as any. Moving downtown killed the scenery but there was a lot of variety to my work along with a little more responsibility. It also brought a little novelty back to seeing an attractive woman. Unfortunately corporate ass-clowns don't know shit about how to retain good workers so I’ll be on my merry way. Later in the day I took apart my computer and found that the motherboard power connector had had a short or something, as several of the plastic pins were charred, and there was burnt plastic in the motherboard power connector. I've already ordered a replacement for the power supply but I don't know how usable the motherboard is. I spent the evening watching TV and chipping burnt plastic out of my motherboard connector. I talked to a friend on the phone for about an hour before I went to bed.

More Returns – PC Problem Persists

It was cold and wet today, with light rain throughout the day. A sales rep from our main medical book distributor was in the store today helping with returns. She was kind enough to buy us all lunch. I was expecting to speak with my boss today regarding my hours and a pay raise, but he didn't show up. We had red beans for dinner and watched some TV in the evening. My computer is acting up again and will not start properly. I suspect the power supply is malfunctioning. The large number of devices in my PC may have strained and damaged the unit. I ordered a 400 watt replacement. Should that not solve the problem, I'll have to consider replacing the mother board.

Internet Service Suspended

This was supposed to be the first day of my shortened hours, but that didn't happen being shorthanded. I worked a register today and spend a good deal of time on the phone trying to get out gift card machine to work. We had slow-cooked spaghetti for dinner. Our internet service was temporarily suspended because they found that I was sharing movies. Obviously it's back up after a phone call.

Computer Drama – 200th Post

I skipped church again as I wasn't feeling well. I spent most of the day fighting my computer. After backing up and formatting, I found that my backed up files were corrupt. I also had trouble getting the computer to start at all. Late in the evening my files reappeared just fine. It will still be a while before it's at 100%.

Haircut – Computer Problems

I finally got around to getting a haircut today. My computer has been having several problems so I formatted it this evening. I'll be working on it through the weekend.

Frustrations at Work

My job has conjured further irritation. My hours have been cut again and I don't intend to tolerate it anymore. I intend to ask for a raise and either get it or leave.

Finishing Trade Returns – Filed Federal Taxes

It was dark, wet, and muggy today. I was feeling kind of miserable for part of the day. I learned how to do return documents today and sent another shipment of trade books. I filed my federal tax return online in the evening, and helped a friend do the same.

Trade Book Returns

It was cold, windy and overcast today. Lousy weather to match how I felt. My allergies, which have been a very mild annoyance over the past week flared up and I felt like crap most of the day. Medication had no effect. We've had a couple shelves full of novels and other trade books in the back room. We've finally got around to returning them. It's time-consuming work returning these, as there are only one or two copies of each book and they must all be dealt with individually. This week's 'Enterprise' episode was rather good, next week's should be great too. There were thundershowers in the evening and I watched “Das Boot.”

New Orleans Hornets vs. New Jersey Nets

It was rather foggy and wet this morning but things dried and warmed up in the afternoon. The store is back to doing returns. The plan is to go through the store and return all books that have been on the shelf for over a year. Even with the store as small as it is, it will probably take several weeks to complete. I shipped out 17 boxes today. Most of them were in their original containers so it wasn't too much trouble. I had little else to do aside from that so I went home after. My brother got some free tickets to tonight's Hornets game so we went to see them play the New Jersey Nets. I was a bit surprised we actually went because our family seldom does things on such short notice. This was my first NBA game in several years. I think the last one was a Denver Nuggets game back in Colorado. Overall, the Hornets had a pretty poor showing. They held a slight lean in the first half but had their asses handed to them in the second…pretty sad against an unremarkable team at home. The final was 91-70.

Super Bowl XXXVI

I missed church today because I overslept. It's been a pretty dull day. I watched some TV, played games on the computer and answered some e-mails. I had the Super Bowl on but I wasn't paying much attention. I admit I watched the new Survivor premiere. It was a dull episode but I suspect that will change soon enough.

Some Family by the House

I aunt and her child, along with my grandmother came by the house this evening for dinner. My mom made an impressive lasagna. Late in the evening I watched “American Graffiti” and “The Sixth Sense.”
