Car Fixed, Movie Watched

This morning my dad and I fixed a problem with my car. The alternater belt broke and the battery died so we replaced the belt and let the engine idle for a while to charge the battery. Later in the day my parents went shopping. I've spent the evening between the computer and the TV. I played Halo for a while and watched “Catch Me if you Can,” a rather amusing movie.

Buyback Training

The store was pretty dead today and I had trouble keeping busy. At two in the afternoon I went with a coworker to the uptown bookstore to participate in a buyback training meeting. Buyback is the process in which the store purchases textbooks from students who no longer want them. The process was portrayed in a rather optimistic fashion, perhaps rightfully so. We only got a basic understanding, buyback is a rather complex process.

No Longer a Paperweight

Work afforded some unique opportunities to keep busy today. I assembled a plastic wrap dispenser used along with a glorified hair dryer to shrink wrap books and things. When I got home I found the wireless router and PCI card came in the mail. My computer has been without internet access since July after lightning fried our cable modem and wired router. Only now have I gotten around to swallowing the expense and purchasing this setup. The typical roller-coaster of emotions accompanied getting the thing to work, but I finally got it working pretty well. That being the case, this is the first post from my computer in five months. No longer will I be relegated to my parent's piece of crap and my computer is no longer a paperweight.

Insert Witty Title Here

Work passed without any trouble today. I brought a camera so I could take some shots of the storeand the surrounding area. I was rather unimpressed with the results but they will serve the purpose. Those pics are now in the gallery. My brothers replacment MP3 player came in mail today, a Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen NX (30 GB). It's a decent player, although the need for software is a severe turnoff for me. The hardware is decent, but the 'quick scroller' is far too small. I often need my fingernail to operate the unit. I started watching Band of Brothers this evening. I saw Part 1, the only part I had seen previously. I was on the phone afterward until about one.

And So It Begins…

After church, my grandma came by the house for a while. She helped decorate our Christmas tree, which we put up today. This is as early as I can remember us doing this. Later in the evening I watched the season finale of Carnivale, one of my favorite shows. I have to believe this is coming back for another season because I wasn't seeing any 'closure' in this episode.

April 24: Festival Season
Nearly five months into the new year and here my first post of 2012. Over the last several months I lost one job and started looking for another one. I started going to the gym and exercising for the first time in my life. I thought I might lack the self discipline to keep up [...]

September 03: Denver in September
Today was the first of a five day trip to Denver with my friend Bianca.  Tropical Storm Lee was moving towards the Louisiana coast today, bringing substantial but intermittent rain since yesterday.  I wasn’t really worried about flight delays but I did think street flooding could keep us from the airport.  The ride to the [...]

August 26: Progress
Nearly two months have passed since my last post.  Seeing a June date on my homepage after all this time has finally compelled me to throw another entry on here.  I had planned a nice little summary of my month of jury duty at Orleans Criminal District Court but I couldn’t muster the enthusiasm.  I [...]
