Winning Streak Ends

This entry is late so the little things are forgotten. I'm sure I went to work for a little while I'm sure. We went to the Tulane baseball game this evening, the first in the Houston series. Tulane didn't play very well this evening, not all that well at all. Scoring was light ly sparced this evening. Houston scored three in third. That was the only scoring until the bottom of the seventh when Tulane scored four runs, briefly taking the lead. Houston immediately answered, however, with three more runs. That was essnetially the end of the game for a 6-4 final, Tulane's fist loss at Turchin since the Cal State Fullerton series.

I took the bus to this afternoon’s class since Dad went to work at the westbank office this morning. I was pretty lucky with the wait. This afternoon’s marketing class dealt with pricing. She covered two chapters on the subject which took a bit longer than most of her sessions. We also got our last test and homework assignment back, both of which I had A’s. I took the bus to work after class. There was some dictation to which I spread over the better part of the workday. Mom picked me up around 5:15. Shortly after I got home I took my computer outside to clean it up a bit. IT was pretty dusty inside and it seems like it’s been a good while since I’ve been home before sunset. It took me a good while but I got it cleaned up fine. I called Melanie and spoke with her ever so briefly this evening since we haven’t talked in a week. She said had been rather sick but this was news to me, which was more than somewhat infuriating. This may be the first time I’ve ever been pissed off at someone who is ill. Bianca called around 11 and we spoke for a little while about her being in town this weekend.

Short Film Class

I went to work somewhat early with Dad this morning. There was some dictation to do, while I worked on while I was at the westbank office. We left that office around noon sometime to go to the Mid City office. I finished working on the reports I started. Dad took me uptown sometime after one. Shortly after arriving on campus, I went to see Dr. Houston at her office. She asked all her students to stop by sometime to discuss their work and the class itself. We talked about my papers briefly and then for a short while about extracurricular stuff. She lent me a copy of Doom 3 for Xbox to write a review about for a makeup assignment. I got something to eat in the bubble after that. I walked back to Gibson Hall and sat on the back steps and read my film class textbook for a good while. In this evening’s film class, we just had a number of students give their class presentations. There was no lecture and class was dismissed at 7:15. Dad picked me up a good while after that around eight, he wasn’t expecting me to finish so early. Later in the evening after getting home I watched Sweet Smell of Success while folding some clothes before bed.

Work and School

I woke up with a sore throat this morning with kinda dampened my whole day, even though it was a minor ailment. I went to work with Dad at the west bank office this morning. There was some dictation to do that had been waiting over the weekend. That and fighting to open the packaging of a two line cordless phone was the only real work of the day, however. We went to the mid city office for a while after we left the west bank around one. I remember nothing from that though. Dad took me uptown for this evening’s class around five. We discussed the TV review assignments in review writing class this evening. I took a bus downtown after class, which I had to wait a while for. Dad picked me up downtown to go home. I was pretty tired, or at least I felt tired, early in the evening and went to bed around 10.

Margaret Kattengell Dead at 56

There was little trace of the thunderstorm from the night before. The streets were dry and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Dad had to go to the west bank office this morning so I had to find my own way to this afternoon’s class. I took the bus and arrived at the mall not too long after 11. I got a milkshake and eventually made my way to class. We had a test in Marketing today, which I completed with little circumstance. I got out of class at 12:30. A choir from San Jose, CA was performing in the mall. I walked to Tulane Ave. and caught a bus to ‘work’ with little wait and arrived just after one. I didn’t really have anything to do. I didn’t have my laptop with me as it hasn’t worked properly since I installed McAfee, so I read some magazines. Dad picked me up to go to this evening’s class just before five. Randy lectured briefly before showing This is Spinal Tap. I left class early to just catch a shuttle uptown. I didn’t remember the times correctly, however, so I missed the shuttle by 10 minutes. I sat in a hotel lobby and read a magazine while I waited for the next one. I got on the 8:30 and got dropped off in front of Rosen House. I walked to Turchin for this evening’s Tulane baseball game against Nicholls State. I arrived around the 5th inning. Tulane had a healthy 4-0 lead. The field lights went out before the 7th inning, darkening the stadium for about 15 minutes, providing a little excitement. Tulane scored 4 runs in the sixth and three in the seventh bringing the score to 11-1, invoking the ten-run rule and ending the game. Dad and I stopped at the post office before making our way home. Shortly after I got home this evening, Mom pointed out the death notice of Margaret Kattengell in the newspaper. She was my American History teacher through my junior year of high school. It was shocking news since she was only 56. Although I didn’t enjoy all of her classes, she was a pretty cool lady. Later in the evening I talked to Khadijah on the phone for a while before going to bed.

Friday Night at Home

I went to work as usual this morning. Nothing of any particular circumstance took place. On the way home we picked up Andrew from school and Dad stopped to wash his car. Jeff arrived for the weekend today. I spent the evening at home as I wasn’t really in the mood to go out. Mom and Dad went downtown for the French Quarter Festival.

Better Weather

This morning left no evidence of yesterday’s stormy weather. It was beautiful outside this morning, cool, sunny and partly cloudy. I took the bus to class this morning since Dad had to go to the westbank today. Today’s marketing class had something to do with personal selling. Ms. Snell went over the upcoming exam before class ended. I took a bus up Tulane Ave. to work after class. There was quite literally nothing to do at work so I didn’t stay very long. I left the office around four to go to Melanie’s house to visit for the evening. Not long after I arrived, we watched The 39 Steps, one of Hitchcock’s earlier films. It’s largely thought of as a great movie but I thought it was merely satisfactory. We started watching Independance Day as Melanie’s mom finished cooking chicken stir-fry for dinner. Later in the evening, we watched The Importance of Being Earnest. I left to go home around 2:30.

Stormy

I worked at the west bank office today for the first time in quite a while. The pleasant of the weather of the past few days was made a distant memory with the heave rain and severe weather throughout the area. Daytime TV was quite frequently interrupted by weather reports concerning tornado warnings and the like. A handful of mobile homes were destroyed in outlying areas. There was also a school shooting in the lower 9th ward that further interrupted the soap operas. There was some dictation to do, which I finished before 11. After I finished cleaning the two hydrocollators around two I ran out of work to do. Mom picked me up after five. We ordered pizza for dinner. The evening was pretty dull.

No Parking

I had to take the bus to class this afternoon as Dad had to go to the west bank office. I had plenty of time and I stopped in EB Games and walked out with a Xbox live headset, the Halo 2 one. When I got upstairs I spoke briefly with Ms. Snell who told me she cancelled class since students would have been unable to park due to an event at the Superdome. She tried calling while I was on the bus but I didn’t answer the phone. I decided to call Ann for lunch and we met at Purple Roses, 20 minutes late as usual. I took a bus to mid city after lunch to work. There were a number of new patient reports, which I finished with no trouble. Dad and I left the office a few minutes after five to take me downtown for this evening’s class. Rock and Roll History class mostly dealt with punk rock. There was a lengthy lecture and we watched some clips before class was dismissed at quarter to eight. I took a cab to Melanie’s house to visit for the evening since Dad was busy this evening. Tulane played UNO on the lakefront and he went to the game. Tulane won that game, 6-0. Melanie and I watched a couple of movies this evening, Patriot Games and Young Sherlock Holmes. I got a cab home, had a pleasant conversation with the driver and arrived after two.

CD Review Review

Dad had said we were going to work early today but I arrived at 9:45 which was manageable. There was just some scattered work to do until the doctor arrived around three. Dad took me uptown not long after since it was about to get crowded at the office and I didn’t have any work to do anyway. I sat is the library for a little while before making my way to class. I stopped in the Richardson lab to pick up a security suite CD and then sat outside for a little while before class started. Attendance was a bit light in class this evening. We went over out music CD reviews. They weren’t too bad and the class thought mine was half-decent. She lectured about television for a little while after the workshop as our next assignment is to review a TV show currently in production. Dad picked me up after class. He arrived just as it ended as he had to work late this evening. I didn’t do much of anything in the evening.

UAB Swept

Dad, Andrew and I went straight from church to the baseball game this afternoon. Jeff went back to school after having been back all last week for spring break. The weather was gorgeous again. Dad was more that slightly naggy about being out in the sun so I bought a hat before the game started. Again, Tulane handily beat UAB with a final score of 13-5. We got home around five after the game. We had field peas for dinner. I spent some time in the evening looking for a ultra-compact AM/FM radio and picked out a Sony model. Later in the evening I did my homework for review writing class, reviewing a recent CD. The Halo 2 soundtrack is the only CD I have less than six months old so I reviews that. I had trouble getting started as I so often do but I think I managed alright. I went to bed having finished that and some laundry shortly after midnight.

The Office Special

I took my good old time getting up this morning, making it out of bed at around 11. I watched Battlestar Galactica after being up for a while. Dad, my brothers and I left the house some time after one to go to this today’s baseball game. We stopped at the Frostop for lunch first. The weather was quite pleasant this afternoon cool and sunny. Tulane beat UAB again this afternoon, but it wasn’t nearly the blowout as yesterday’s game was. Tulane held a 4-1 lead at the end of the eighth. UAB scored three runs late but it wasn’t enough and Tulane won 4-3. We came home after the game, grandma was there, she stopped by for a visit and dinner. Mom made barbeque shrimp, which was quite good, more buttery than usual. Later in the evening I watched The Office Special, a Christmas special which served as an end to the series. Although the David Brent character is often hard to watch, the latter half made up for that to make one of the best endings to a sitcom. Although I have some disdain for love stories and they are all too often contrived and cheesy, The Office had the best one I can ever remember seeing in either TV or film. I talked to Khadijah on the phone for a little while and went to bed at a half-decent hour.
